The Observer.

Francis Alys’ website says very little about the artist. It simply states “Born in Belgium, 1959. Lives and works in Mexico City.” And then you are left with his videos.  His titles for his performances are called things like “Sometimes making leads to nothing” or “Don’t cross the Bridge before you get to the River”.

He is an intense observer of life. He conceives his work on long walks through out the city. He records the social, cultural and economic conditions around him where he allows the everyday, the mundane and the overlooked to become art. Sometimes his making, quite literally, leads to nothing, other times he leaves a permanent trail  of thought throughout the city. He is an investigator of the transitory. He is also one of the most fascinating artists I have found in quite a while!

Please have a look at his website link here. I could spend hours watching these videos.
